Best Of Darjeeling & Sikkim - 7 Days

This 7-day trip will take you to some hidden gems of Sikkim and Darjeeling. Sikkim is a paradise with scenic destinations and rich culture. A perfect hideout from the hustle and bustle of the city life, this state offers an array of adventure and history to every traveller. When in Sikkim, visit Lachen, Yumthang Valley, Changu Lake and New Baba Mandir. Then, head to Darjeeling, a wonderful town with picturesque landscapes, beautiful weather and vast tea plantations. You can explore the Tibetan influence in the craft, culture and cuisine of Darjeeling. Some of the must-visit places in Darjeeling are Tiger Hills, Batasia Loop, Ghum Monastery, Padmaja Naidu Himalaya Zoological Park, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Tea Garden, Tenzing Rock, Tibetan Refugee Self Help Center, Japanese Temple, Peace Pagoda and Ropeway.

Day 1
Arrive in Gangtok

Upon your arrival in NJP railway station or Bagdogra Airport (IXB), head straight to Gangtok, which is around 4 to 5 hours away from Siliguri. Once you reach Gangtok, you can spend the evening at leisure.

Day 2
Explore Lachung

After a delectable breakfast, start your journey to Lachung. Enroute, visit Singhik Viewpoint, Seven Sisters Waterfall and Naga Waterfall. Once you reach Lachung in the evening, take rest for a while. Enjoy your dinner at the hotel and stay overnight in Lachung.

Day 3
Lachung - Yumthang Valley Excursion - Gangtok

After the breakfast, proceed to Yumthang Valley, the Valley of Flowers, which is located at an elevation of 11,800 feet. On the way back, visit the Hot Spring, which a natural spring and known for its medicinal properties. Later, return to the resort and stay overnight in Gangtok.

Day 4
Excursion to Changu Lake and New Baba Mandir

Around 7:30 to 8:30 am, after the breakfast, begin your excursion to Changu Lake (12,400 ft.) and New Baba Mandir (13,200 ft.), which are 55 km away from Gangtok city. Changu Lake is situated at an altitude of 12,000 feet on the Gangtok-Nathu La Highway. Home to plenty of Brahminy ducks, this lake is considered sacred by the local people. This placid lake remains frozen during the winter months up to mid-May. Later, you can take an optional tour to Nathu La Pass, which is nearly 20 kilometres further from Changu Lake. You need to take prior permission to visit Nathu La Pass and extra cost will be charged for extended tour to Nathu La. In the evening, you can roam around M G Road (Mall) or do local shopping in Gangtok.

Day 5
From Gangtok to Darjeeling

After a delectable breakfast, embark on a 4-hour trip to Darjeeling. You can spend the evening at leisure.

Day 6
Explore Darjeeling

In the early morning, take a tour to Tiger Hills and witness the morning sunrise view over Kangchenjunga Peak at around 4 AM, if the weather permits. On your way back, visit Batasia Loop and Ghum Monastery. After breakfast, take a tour around the city of Darjeeling. You can visit Padmaja Naidu Himalaya Zoological Park and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. Also, pay a visit to Tea Garden, Tenzing Rock, Tibetan Refugee Self Help Center, Japanese Temple, Peace Pagoda and Ropeway.

Day 7
Departure

On the last day of your trip, drive to NJP railway station or Bagdogra Airport for your return journey.

Lachung

Lachung, which means small pass, is a picturesque town in North Sikkim. Situated close to the Indo–China border, tourists have to get permission from the government before visiting this breathtakingly beautiful hill station. At the top of your list of places to visit should be the Lachung Monastery, which was built in 1850. It is surrounded by apple orchards, and coincidentally, Lachung is famous for its apples as well as peaches and apricots. The handicraft centre has an interesting selection of exquisitely woven rugs and blankets for those who wish to shop. The Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, with the Yumthang Chu flowing through, is a place of beauty and is a good place to visit for a leisurely and scenic stroll. Visitors to Lachung often plan to stay for a night before continuing on to the Yumthang valley, which is a grazing paradise for yaks. All the same, visiting the beautiful Lachung is highly recommended for those looking for peace and relaxation, while surrounded by forests and mountains.

Gangtok

Nestled between the mighty peaks of the Himalayas, the city of Gangtok rises as a center for Tibetology and Tibetan Buddhist culture. It is the capital of the state of Sikkim in India and a popular destination for globetrotters. With its stunning views of Mount Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world, this beautiful city gained prominence after the construction of Enchey Monastery. Today, Gangtok is home to many monasteries and educational institutions. The Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, Himalayan Zoological Park, Ganesh Tok, Enchey Gompa and White Memorial Hall, are few of the attractions in Gangtok. Another feature of the city, is that it acts as a gateway to other parts of the state. It is very easy to travel to the various places of interest in Sikkim from Gangtok like Tsomgo Lake, Yumthang Valley, Nathu La Pass, Pelling and more.

Darjeeling

Lying amidst the slopes of the Lesser Himalayas and blanketed by emerald green plantations of tea, Darjeeling is a picturesque town in the Indian state of West Bengal. The majestic Kangchenjunga towers over this beautiful town, which is the third highest mountain in the world. Popularly known as the ‘Queen of the Hills’, Darjeeling provided stunning locations for many Bollywood movies including Barfi, Main Hoon Na and Aradhana. Developed by the British, the colonial era architecture can still be seen everywhere in Darjeeling. Tiger Hill offers a spectacular view of both Mount Everest and Mount Kangchenjunga. Lloyd’s Botanical Garden has a collection of several species of flora including oak, magnolia and bamboo. Go on an adventurous trek up to Sandakphu in Singalila Range, the highest peak in West Bengal and feast your eyes on the spellbinding panorama.
